Happy Leap Day!
For my my Leap Day celebrations I did my laundry. The guys at the farm worked in their fields this afternoon, so they gave me the afternoon off. I took the time to wash some much needed laundry. I ended up falling asleep outside, but I didn’t get sunburned! It was a very relaxing afternoon. We also got frozen treats after dinner tonight. The picture is of my frozen, black berry. Basically my favorite thing here.
I’m not saying I get one ever day, but I might be…

More bag moving and dirt shoveling today. We moved all of the fertilizer ingredients into the shed today, making us ready to start flipping the pile tomorrow. I am extremely tired tonight after a long day of work/alate night with the housemates.

Sorry this is short. Night!

Work was very long today. We moved 100 lb.+ bags of dirty to the fertilizer shed. Instead of using wheelbarrows, we carried the bags with our back. You have to love Guatemalan labor. No wonder our number one surgery is fro hernia repair.

At least I am getting my squats in.

Today was quite the day in Guatemala. Basically it was rip-off city for me today. I hiked the Indian Nose which can be seen from San Pedro La Laguna. We bargained the price down to seventy Quetzals. It turned out that the entrance to the nose costs Q50. The guide only got a Q20 profit, but he also had to pay his way to get to the hike and the agencies took a percentage. Basically this poor man had to guid us up the mountain on a Sunday and he made no money.  We should of found a better agency.

Today we had a huge fiesta for Father Greg’s arrival/departure/birthday. Over 1,500 people showed up to the mass. When the mass ended people lined up out the door of the church to talk with him. He is viewed as a saint in the town.

The man who started the Mission finally came back today. We had a huge mass and it was very emotional for everyone. I do not think people expected him to look so sick. He has an amazing presence around him, like he has a higher power involved (cheesy I know). He has done so much for this town. I am not sure what they will do without him.

Surgery week ended!

Today was amazing. I was able to sit in on surgeries all morning. Eventually they had me do some translating work. Sadly I had to tell a little girl that shouldn’t have her surgery because she has pneumonia. Other than that the week went great. Twenty two life saving surgeries were given.

We went to the Circus tonight!

It was exactly how you would picture a Guatemalan circus but more. There was trapeze, awkward dancing, juggling, reggaeton performances, a girl flying around the room in a hoop, clowns, and personalized key chains. Basically, it was the place where dreams are made.

Thank you San Lucas for never turning dull.
